Men's Lacrosse Rally Comes Up Short In 13-9 Loss At Scranton

SCRANTON, PA (April 9, 2022) -- The visiting Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team finished the game on a 4-1 run but couldn't complete the rally, falling 13-9 to the University of Scranton in Landmark Conference play from Weiss Field Saturday.

The game was tied at two after 15 minutes, as first-year Kieran Thomas posted both goals in the opening frame for Susquehanna (7-6, 1-2 Landmark). The host Royals would outscore SU 4-0 in the second quarter, taking a 6-2 edge into the halftime break. 

Rob Swenson tallied for SU right out of the locker room, scoring off an assist from Brennan Lorence. Scranton (7-5, 2-2 Landmark) responded with three straight goals before another Thomas strike made it 9-4 midway through the third quarter. First-year Jack Gaillard scored with eight seconds left in the third quarter to make the score 10-5 heading to the fourth. 

The Royals upped their lead to 12-5, but Susquehanna slowly started to make its move as Gaillard scored with 9:06 left. First-year Matthew Faggioli tallied with the man-advantage, and Chris Ciccarello and Victor Simone also netted goals but SU wasn't able to make the full comeback.

Thomas finished with three goals and an assist, taking a team-high 10 shots while adding two ground balls. Gaillard also tallied two goals, an assist and three ground balls, while Ryan Prum was 18-of-26 on face-offs while posting a game-high 11 ground balls. 

Ted Zaboroski finished with seven ground balls as well, and Gavin Rossman tallied two caused turnovers as well. Junior Jozef Korpics made 15 saves for SU, which was outshot 41-39 on the afternoon. 

Susquehanna won the ground ball battle 37-32, while going 1-for-3 with the extra man. Matthew McAree led all scorers with six points on two goals and four assists, while Chris Crapanzano added four goals and an assist. Mitchell Kozak also posted three goals an an assist.
