SELINSGROVE, PA (May 19, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University athletics department announced the appointment of Bethanne Zeigler as the new head coach for the cheerleading program.
"We are thrilled to have Bethanne take over the reins of our cheerleading program," said Director of Athletics
Sharief Hashim. "The program has a long-standing history of excellence, and we feel confident that Bethanne will continue that while creating a fantastic atmosphere for our fans and student-athletes."
"I am honored to have this opportunity and am very excited to join the Susquehanna University River Hawk family as the Head Cheerleading Coach," said Zeigler.
Zeigler comes to Susquehanna University after serving as the head varsity cheerleading coach for Shikellamy School District in Sunbury, Pennsylvania from 1987 until June of 2018. While at Shikellamy, she was in charge of conducting and overseeing selection of the cheerleading squad, managing fundraising efforts, supervising practices and athletic competitions and hosting clinics and camps for local youth cheer programs.
"Our fans should expect to see high energy and enthusiasm from the team," said Zeigler. "Crowd participation will be a focus and we hope to bring the fans some new skills in the way of tumbling and stunting."
She also has served as board secretary and secretary to the superintendent for the Shikellamy School District since 2002. The Sunbury native graduated from Shikellamy High School back in 1986.
"I expect the SU Cheerleaders to exemplify a strong work ethic both academically and as a cheerleader," said Zeigler. "Cheerleaders are expected to be respectful of others and be of strong character. The cheerleaders will be positive representation of the university and will support their fellow athletes."
