Hood Scores Twice In The Ninth To Top Baseball, 4-2

SELINSGROVE, PA (May 3, 2022) -- Visiting Hood College scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to earn a 4-2 victory over the Susquehanna University baseball team in action from Bollinger Field Tuesday afternoon.

The big hit for the Blazers (12-27) came from Stephen Sommer, as he tripled in two runners with two outs in the ninth inning to bust up a 2-2 tie. Susquehanna (14-23) had a runner in the bottom of the ninth, but a double play ended the threat.

The River Hawks opened the scoring in the top of the third, as J.P. Yore touched off a solo blast to left field. Nathan Dawes would post a fantastic start for the River Hawks, as he allowed just two hits over five scoreless innings to keep SU in front.

The Blazers would get on the board in the top of the sixth, scoring an unearned run to make it 1-1. In the seventh another unearned run off Kieran Dougherty put the Hood in front for the first time, this time getting a pinch hit sacrifice fly by Dutch DeProspero.

Susquehanna knotted the game back up at two in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Camryn Eberly pushed in a run with a sacrifice fly to score Tony Rossi. In the ninth, Christian Rossi got the first two runners but a walk and single set up the Sommer game-winning triple.

The River Hawks had just four hits for the contest, as Yore finished 1-for-1 with a walk before being lifted for a pinch hitter. Jared Forscht was 1-for-1, while Tony Rossi finished 1-for-1 with three walks and a run scored. Thomas Romanelli also walked three times, and Michael Rauso posted two of the team's 10 free passes.

Brock Veit posted his first appearnace on the mound for SU, allowing one hits while striking out one. Dougherty fanned one in an inning of work, and Rossi took the loss while giving up two hits and two runs.
