Field Hockey Grabs Another Road Win, Topping Albright in OT

READING, PA (September 10, 2022) – Susquehanna Field Hockey hit the road on Saturday morning for a non-conference matchup with Albright College and the action did not disappoint, with the River Hawks and Lions tied at the end of regulation before Annalee Smith found a winner in the opening moments of the overtime period to give SU the 3-2 victory.

After some cagey opening minutes as the match got underway, Susquehanna would put the first tally on the board with the very first shot of the game, as first-year Emma Campitelli scored the first goal of her collegiate career. Both teams' offenses would then remain relatively quiet for the remainder of the first half, with Susquehanna producing four total shots in the half to Albright's three.

The second half proved to be a vastly different affair, with Albright coming out firing in the third period. They would register two goals in quick succession to take a 2-1 lead, the first coming on a well-executed penalty corner and the second less than two minutes later following some relentless offensive pressure that included two more penalty corner attempts. All told, Albright tallied seven shots in the third period along with four penalty corners.

The River Hawks would quickly make a play to seize back the momentum after falling behind in the game, putting two shots on frame to force saves from Albright's goalie before sophomore Sophia Prata put one past her on an assist from Rebecca Ripans, only 1:01 after Albright's second goal.

Scoring then went quiet for the remainder of the third period and entirety of the fourth, with each team producing just a couple of chances in the fourth period. Overtime began with Susquehanna immediately on the attack with a penalty corner chance and following the insert and some scuffling in the scoring area, Smith would jump on the chance to end the match and fire home after only three seconds of game time had elapsed.

The win moves Susquehanna to 3-2 on the season and matches the scoreline from the opening game of their road trip on September 7, when they traveled to Dickinson College and got the victory. They'll now look to make it three wins from three as they'll head to Wilkes-Barre on September 14 to face King's College (PA), with the match scheduled to begin at 4 PM.
