WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 14, 2022) – Susquehanna Field Hockey traveled to face King's College on Wednesday evening and wasted no time in taking the game to their hosts, scoring two goals in the first four minutes of play. King's would answer back with one of their own, but the River Hawks held onto the lead for the remainder of the match and scoring went silent for both squads, as the game ended 2-1 and SU took the win.
First-year Emma Campitelli opened the scoring just 38 seconds into play, scoring on an assist from Ashley Schreffler. They continued to put pressure on King's and put another marker on the scoreboard through a second goal just over three minutes later, with Annalee Smith scoring her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Katie Bucher.
King's got one back in the final minute of the first period, but from there on it would be constant offensive pressure from SU. They would tally 12 unanswered shots over the next two periods with King's defense and goalkeeper working hard to keep the score at 2-1, which they managed to do while finally renewing their own offensive attack and forcing three saves from SU goalkeeper Mackenzie Bross in the final frame of the match. The River Hawks held out and earned their win having dominated much of the match, forcing 10 saves on 12 shots on goal with 20 total attempts, compared to only five shots and four on frame from King's.
Susquehanna moves to 3-2 on the season and completes their three-game road trip having gone 3-0. They'll now return home to host Gettysburg College on Saturday the 17th, with the game scheduled to start at noon.
