River Hawk Volleyball Splits At Ford Invitational Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HAVERTOWN, PA (September 10, 2022) -- The No. 19 Susquehanna University volleyball team dropped its first match of the day at the 2022 Ford Invitational to Cortland State in four sets Saturday, but rebounded to knock off Springfield College in four games in action from Haverford College. SU fell to Cortland with scores of 21-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-20 before knocking off Springfield 21-25, 25-14, 25-17, 27-25.

Match 1: Cortland 3, Susquehanna 1
The River Hawks earned the first set against Cortland 25-21, but the Red Dragons (4-1) tallied to knock off SU 25-23, 25-14 and 25-20 in the final three sets to earn the win. Sophomore Ryan Rorls posted 11 kills on 33 attempts, adding six digs. 

Senior Rosina Esposito added 11 kills and 15 digs for her fourth double-double of the season, while fifth-year Kody Dillon hit .320 for the match with 11 terminations on 25 swings, adding 12 digs. Junior Emily Kowalski finished with seven kills as well, while Keira Roach tallied four kills, 35 assists and nine digs. 

Defensively, Jessica Sack led the way with 16 digs while Lexie Kalligonis and Faith Shaffer posted 13 and eight digs, respectively. SU hit .123 for the match, while tallying eight total rejections. 

Match 2: Susquehanna 3, Springfield 1
In the final match of the Fords Invitational, Susquehanna dropped the opening set to the Pride of Springfield 25-21, but responded with wins in the next three games with scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 27-25. 

The River Hawk offense came alive in the second match of the day, hitting .256 as a team in the win. Esposito tallied a team-high 13 kills on 40 attacks as well as four aces, earning All-Tournament Team accolades for her efforts. Dillon posted nine terminations as well, adding four total blocks. 

Sophomore Amanda Gore posted seven kills on 14 attempts, hitting .500 for the match, and Rorls tallied nine kills in win. Roach posted 41 assists as well for Susquehanna.
