EDWARDSVILLE, PA (September 13, 2022) – Susquehanna Men's Soccer remains winless in the 2022 season after travelling to face Wilkes University on Tuesday night. They were held off the scoreboard by the Colonels and conceded two goals in quick succession in the 40th minute to see the 2-0 scoreline that lasted until the final whistle.
SU came under strong pressure from the outset of the match, as Wilkes fired off the first three shots of the game and had five successive corner kicks, kept out of goal only by a Gerrit Stech save and by the woodwork. The River Hawks began to attempt to put pressure on in return, with shots from Owen Healey in the 16th minute and Walter Wyatt in the 22nd minute both drawing saves from Wilkes' keeper. SU's period of momentum would end in the 31st minute after a Clay Yannazzone shot forced another save. From there, after a few minutes with no offense for either team, Wilkes found the net twice in the span of 33 seconds, taking a lead and a huge confidence boost into halftime.
The second half was much of the same, as SU produced only one shot in the half compared to Wilkes' seven and never looked much like dislodging the Colonels from the lead. Wilkes finished the match with 16 shots and eight on goal compared to SU's six shots with four on target. The Colonels also racked up 14 corner kicks, with the River Hawks only managing three.
Susquehanna will look to put this match behind them and focus on their next match, as they return to Selinsgrove to host Widener University on Friday, September 16 at 7 pm, with another opportunity to break duck and get a tally in the win column.
