SELINSGROVE, PA (September 14, 2022) – Susquehanna Women's Soccer returned to home turf on Wednesday evening after a weekend trip to Virginia that saw them take two losses against tough opposition. They returned to winning ways as they hosted Wilkes University, getting a 2-0 victory with a comprehensive performance at Sassafras.
The scoring opened in the 8th minute when junior Mikela Florio jumped on a chance in the box and buried a shot in the right side of the goal. SU continued to pile the pressure on Wilkes, tallying seven shots in the first half, but would not find the net again until after halftime.
The second goal came from senior Emily Wertz, as she netted her third of the season after a great ball over top of the defense from Florio gave her a one-on-one chance against the keeper which she placed perfectly out of reach of the keeper and into the top right corner of the net. The River Hawks would see out their two-goal advantage with continued dominance in possession and stout defense.
SU finished the game with 12 shots and five on goal, while Wilkes responded with only three shots and one on goal.
Susquehanna will remain at home for their next fixture, as Grove City College comes to Selinsgrove on Saturday, September 17 for a 2:30 pm kickoff. With their record now even at 3-3, they'll look to put a win streak together with conference play fast approaching.
