ONEONTA, NY (September 4, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University men's soccer squad went on the road Sunday afternoon, earning a 0-0 draw at Hartwick College in non-conference action from Elmore Field. It was SU's first scoreless draw since a 0-0 tie at the University of Scranton last September 25.
Hartwick (0-1-1) went on the attack early in the first half and notched a shot in the ninth minute, as Jake Zona hit the post for the Hawks. Susquehanna's
Adrian Dilascio had a pair of shots midway through the first half, while
Max Paczewski also had his attempt saved in the 27th minute by Hartwick keeper Jackson Gilstrap.
In the 41st minute, Hartwick posted another scoring opportunity but
Gerrit Stech saved a header by Jim Mahony. After the halftime break, the two teams were pulled off the field due to lightning in the area. Following the lightning delay, Stech was forced into making a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless.
SU had another chance to get on the board in the 69th minute, as Dilascio saw his header shot sail just wide. Minutes later a corner kick from
Walter Wyatt connected on the head of
Sean Kellogg but it went just wide. Both teams had two more shots down the stretch but neither were on goal as the game finished goalless. No overtime periods were played with the new NCAA rules for the 2022 season.
Dilascio led the River Hawks with three shots, while
Calvin Paulick and
Max Paczewski each had a pair of attempts. Stech made three stops in earning the shutout, the first of the campaign and his third career clean sheet. Hartwick held a slight 11-9 edge in attempts on goal, while both squads posted five corner kicks.
