TOWSON, MD (October 10, 2023) – The Susquehanna women's soccer team visited Goucher on Tuesday evening for a Landmark matchup, fresh off their first conference win of the season against Elizabethtown over the weekend. Despite a hard-fought match, SU would share the spoils with the hosting Gophers, with neither team able to find the back of the net and ending in a 0-0 deadlock.
The River Hawks were efficient in their attack throughout the game, with seven of their ten shots on goal, putting Goucher's goalkeeper to work. She would be up to the task, saving six of those shots on goal to keep SU off the scoreboard. Goucher would have a few chances to respond with attacks of their own, but couldn't quite replicate the quality of chances, finishing with six shots and just two on goal, both of which would be saved by Kayleigh Saboja.
Emily Wertz and Gillian Maack led the way for the River Hawk offense, with Maack tallying five shots and three on goal, while Wertz had three shots, all of which were on goal. Maack came inches away from a late winner for the River Hawks, with a shot in the 89th minute that would be cleared off the line by a Goucher defender, keeping the ball out and accounting for Goucher's seventh total save.
The River Hawks will get right back to Landmark action on Saturday, October 14, as they'll visit Moravian for a 3:30 pm kickoff.
