BETHLEHEM, PA (October 14, 2023) – The Susquehanna women's soccer team visited Moravian on Saturday afternoon, slogging through rainy conditions for a Landmark Conference matchup. The hosts made the most of their chances on offense, claiming a 3-0 win over the River Hawks.
Moravian got off to a quick start, putting up a couple early shots before finding the back of the net in the 14th minute. Susquehanna responded with a period of control, tallying the next three shots and seeing Emily Wertz force a save from the Moravian goalie. However, it would be the Greyhounds who ultimately struck next, earning a penalty kick call in the 38th minute and converting it, doubling their lead before the halftime break.
The River Hawks would come close in the final minutes of the opening half, seeing Olivia Haines and Cierra Getz have shots saved while Wertz would hit the left post, but the score remained 2-0 at the break. Moravian would continue to press their advantage in the second half, outshooting SU six to two in the period and netting a third goal in the 72nd minute to seal the result.
Kayleigh Saboja finished the day with five saves in goal for SU, fighting hard to stem the tide of Moravian attacks. Wertz led Susquehanna in shots with three, while Getz had the most on goal with two.
Susquehanna will have a chance to get back in the win column in just a few days, coming back to Selinsgrove to host Juniata College on Tuesday, October 17 at 7 pm.
