SCRANTON, PA (October 21, 2023) – The Susquehanna University women's soccer team visited Scranton on Saturday afternoon, taking on the reigning Landmark champions and current leaders with just three matches remaining in the regular season. The River Hawks defended hard against the high-powered Royal offense, but ultimately fell 1-0 after a second half free kick yielded a goal for Scranton.

The River Hawks spent much of the day in their own end, defending well and managing to hold Scranton off the board for nearly 64 minutes before the lone goal. Kayleigh Saboja also had another strong game in net for SU, making six saves, including four in the second half to help keep Susquehanna within striking distance.

Scranton was particularly dominant in the second half, tallying eight of their 13 total shots in the period. On the other end, SU was forced to be more clinical on offense, only getting the opportunity for three shots on the day but forcing saves with two of them. Emily Wertz and Gillian Maack would each draw a save from the Scranton goalie, while Marley Sprenkel added the third shot.

Susquehanna will have one final road game before they get to return home for their regular season finale. They'll first travel to face Dickinson on Tuesday, October 24 in a late-season non-conference clash, looking to get back in the win column in preparation for their Senior Day clash with Drew on Saturday, October 28, with the River Hawks hoping to earn one of the two remaining playoff spots for the Landmark postseason.
