Susquehanna Faces Ranked Opponents in Calvin Invite

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Susquehanna Volleyball competed on the road in the Calvin Invite this weekend, facing the eighth-ranked hosts Friday before taking on back-to-back matches on Saturday against Defiance College and #3 Hope College. Each match would end in a loss, moving the River Hawks' overall record to 7-17 overall.

Match 1: Calvin University 3, Susquehanna 0
Susquehanna opened the tournament facing the 17-3 hosts Calvin University in perhaps the quickest match of the season for the away side. The match would end with final scores of 25-8, 25-9, and 25-8 all in favor of the Knights.

First year Stella Robinson led the squad in kills for the match with five, followed by Sami Kline with three. Delaney McCoy once again provided the most assists for the River Hawks with four, while Megan Currie and Keira Roach were close behind with three each. Jessica Sack provided the sole service ace for Susquehanna along with five digs. As a team SU posted a .000 hitting percentage, with their highest clip of .136 coming in the final set.

Match 2: Defiance 3, Susquehanna 1
After a quick turnaround for the well-travelled Susquehanna team, they faced their most even opponent in Defiance College. The first set proved to be one of SU's most efficient of the season, as they posted a .517 hitting percentage to take a 25-20 victory. The celebrations would not last long, however, as Defiance quickly pulled back a 25-20 win of their own, followed by another two set wins by scores of 25-16 and 25-21 en route to a 3-1 loss for Susquehanna.

Emily Kowalski returned to form as she slammed 14 kills on the match, closely followed by Stella Robinson with 12. Delaney McCoy and Megan Currie were again atop the River Hawks in the assists category, with 22 and 16, respectively. Currie and Sami Kline both set career highs in blocks in the match, Currie with seven and Kline with six. Regan Kane and Valerie Stoltz spun two service aces in the match. Stoltz would also lead SU defensively with 16 digs, while Callie Wince dug up seven of her own.

Match 3: Hope 3, Susquehanna 0
Susquehanna's final appearance in the tournament would come against their eighth ranked opponent of the season, #3 Hope University. Showing their familiarity with ranked opponents, SU fought their way through the first set, leading on six occasions and tying on 13 separate occasions. Five consecutive points from Hope would end the River Hawks' chances of winning the set, with a final score of 25-20 in favor of Hope. The next two sets would not fair as competitive for Susquehanna, as Hope finished the match with 25-14 and 25-13 victories.

Brie Livezey and Emily Kowalski both finished the match with seven kills to lead the team. Delaney McCoy rounded out her tournament appearances by leading the River Hawks in assists with 11, followed closely by Megan Currie. Regan Kane notched three service aces on the night alongside Amanda Gore with two of her own.
The team will return to conference play at home Friday at 7:00 PM against Wilkes, followed by a 4:00 PM Saturday match against Moravian.
