Susquehanna Wraps Busy Stretch Hosting York (Pa.) in Pre-Thanksgiving Scuffle

SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna University women's basketball played their fourth game in six days Tuesday evening on their home court, welcoming York College (Pa.) in a pre-Thanksgiving matchup. The River Hawks held as much as a 16-9 lead to open the first eight minutes, but the Spartans closed out the quarter with a 9-0 run to lead after the first period. Things remained close in the second quarter with YCP up 35-30 at the half, only for the Spartans to thrust forward with a big third quarter towards a 73-57 win. The River Hawks, now 2-2, have time to rest up before opening Landmark action next Wednesday, Nov. 29 hosting Goucher at 7 p.m.

York forged ahead in the third quarter thanks to shooting 6-of-10 from the floor, while Susquehanna shot just 3-of-11. Overall the Spartans made 48.1 of their shots (26-54) and 7-of-18 threes, while the River Hawks finished at 29.3 percent (17-58) with 4-of-13 threes made. The semi-matinee was also latent with fouls, 24 on York and 17 on Susquehanna, in which SU came through on 19-of-25 free throws and YCP 14-of-20. York held a 41-31 edge in the rebounding category, including nine offensive boards for 13 second-chance points. The River Hawks hauled in 11 offensive rebounds towards seven redemption markers. Both defenses were potent in the turnover battle, with Susquehanna forcing the Spartans into 21 turnovers for 18 points off turnovers, while leading 12-9 in fastbreak points.

Kaitlyn Lynch made a team-best 14 points, making 4-of-7 from the field and 2-of-3 on threes, while going a perfect 4-for-4 on free throws. She also finished with four blocks to tie for third on the team. Zoie Maffei led with six rebounds and posted seven points on 3-of-9 shooting with one free throw to go with four steals. Julia Roth also had four steals to tie for the game high, while making eight points, including 4-of-6 free throws with five boards and three assists. Lauren Klein produced ten points for second on the squad with a perfect 6-for-6 touch at the line and 2-of-6 made from the floor with four rebounds and three assists in a team-high 35 minutes of action.
