Women's Basketball Hits Triple Digits in Landmark Opener Victory

SELINSGROVE, PA (November 29, 2023) – Taking to home court for their 2023-24 Landmark Conference opener on Wednesday evening, Susquehanna women's basketball made a resounding statement to the rest of the league as they trounced Goucher 109-60, reaching triple digits for the first time in more than two decades. With six players in double digits, sophomore Carly George led the way with a dominant performance in her first career start, tallying 20 points and coming up just one rebound short of a double-double with nine.

The River Hawks jumped out to a red-hot start, scoring a whopping 31 points in just the first quarter, shooting over 50 percent in every quarter with a game-high 61.1 percent mark in the third quarter. They were equally potent from beyond the arc, shooting 52.4 percent in the game with 11 makes. They would be nearly perfect from the foul line, making 14 of their 15 attempts.

George was just one of many stellar individual performances, with her contributions coming in only 19 minutes on the floor. She tallied her 20 points on eight of 13 shooting, adding her nine rebounds, along with a block and a steal. Kaitlyn Lynch would follow just behind in both points and rebounds, scoring 16 points and grabbing eight rebounds along with three assists and a block. Assists abounded as the team racked up 33 total, with Madison Miller leading the way off the bench, racking up five assists in ten minutes on the floor. Julia Roth, Julia Pinckert, Sydney Weyant, and Grace Meehan all had four assists. Roth would also reach double-digit points with 13. Kenzie Selvaggi, Elke Staver, and Lauren Klein would round out the double-digit scorers with 13, 12, and 11 points, respectively.

The River Hawks would dominate in nearly every facet of play, particularly in the paint. They racked up 58 of their points in the paint, also outrebounding Goucher 54 to 35.

SU will get right back to Landmark action this weekend, hosting Moravian on Saturday as part of a home doubleheader with the men's team. The men will tip at 2 pm, with the women to follow at 4 pm.
