River Hawks Improve to 2-0 in Landmark Play Behind Roth's Double-Double

SELINSGROVE, PA (December 2, 2023) – The Susquehanna women's basketball team continued their strong start to Landmark Conference play with another dominant victory, topping Moravian 62-42 on Saturday afternoon. Led by a brilliant 18-point, 20-rebound double-double performance from sophomore Julia Roth, the River Hawks controlled proceedings from the opening whistle.

Susquehanna's defense had the visiting Greyhounds completely shut down from the start, scoring the first five points of the game and holding Moravian to only four points in the first quarter, leading 17-4 after the first frame. Ball movement and active hands on defense gave the River Hawks the platform to control the game throughout the afternoon, as they tallied 14 assists on 21 made field goals along with nine steals and seven blocks on the defensive end. Taking a 34-14 scoreline into the halftime break, SU never looked like losing their grip on the game, with their lead never dropping below 17 points for the entire second half.

Roth did it all on the day, scoring efficiently as she went eight for 14 from the floor, grabbing ten offensive and ten defensive rebounds for her total of 20, and finishing second on the team in assists with four. She would also be the leading provider of blocks and steals with three each. Julia Pinckert put her playmaking skills on full display, racking up a season-high six assists, also adding five points, four rebounds, and two blocks. Carly George also reached double digits in rebounds, grabbing a career-high of 10.

Three River Hawks had double-digit scoring totals, with Roth's 18 leading all scorers. Kenzie Selvaggi made three shots from long range enroute to a 13-point performance, while Kaitlyn Lynch continued her streak of double-digit games with 10 points. She's now reached double digits in three-straight games and in five of SU's six total games this season.

Susquehanna will now undertake a lengthy road stretch, with all of their remaining games in 2023 coming on the road. They'll face two more Landmark contenders in Catholic and Elizabethtown next week, before three-straight road non-conference games against Lebanon Valley, Babson, and Colby-Sawyer. The game against Catholic will be Wednesday, December 6 at 6 pm.
