River Hawks Drop Midweek Affair at #21 Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Despite a tight battle in the early going and Julia Roth leading the River Hawks in points, rebounds, and steals, a big Cardinals second half stymied Susquehanna in a 73-51 defeat at 21st-ranked Catholic Wednesday night. Roth had 25 points, shooting 11-14 from the field, with eight rebounds and three steals. Julia Pinckert was next in Susquehanna's scoring category with seven points.

The River Hawks jumped out to an early 7-2 lead after a couple of Roth buckets and a three ball from Pinckert. Catholic would turn things around by the end of the first quarter leading the River Hawks 20-13 at the quarter break. Susquehanna remained vigilant throughout the second quarter as the River Hawks drew to within four after a Pinckert bucket. The Cardinals picked things back up by expanding their lead to 15 before halftime and taking a 37-26 lead into intermission. Though Susquehanna came out of the gate with a run to cut the lead down to four, the Cardinals finished the quarter out on a 15-4 run that carried over into the fourth quarter to pull away.

Both sides finished similarly in shooting as Susquehanna shot 39.2 percent (20-51) with just 2-of-18 made from 3-point range and 9-of-15 on free throws, compared to CUA's 39.3 percent (22-56) with 7-of-24 threes made and 22-of-26 from the line. The Cardinals had four double-digit scorers in Anna Scoblick with 19, Sarah White with 16, and Carly Mulvaney and Keegan Douglas with 12 apiece. SU gave Catholic a tight battle in the rebounding battle with the Cardinals leading just 38-33, triggered by eight boards from Roth and six from Pinckert.

Susquehanna (4-3, 2-1 Landmark) will next be in action at 4:00pm on Saturday, December 9th at #18 Elizabethtown, who stand at 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Landmark, with their defeats coming at the hands of Catholic last Wednesday and third-ranked Christopher Newport.
