SELINSGROVE, PA (February 11, 2023) – The Susquehanna women's basketball team was dealt a tough loss on Saturday afternoon as they hosted the Cardinals of Catholic University and fell 75-41 at home.
The game began on a positive note for the River Hawks, as they hung close in the first quarter, seeing the Cardinals score first to jump out into the lead but responding to eventually tie the game at nine apiece, with a jumper from Julia Pinckert knotting it up at the 6:37 mark. However, this would prove to be the last time that Catholic wouldn't lead, as they responded with a five-point run, remaining out in front before hitting a three in the final minute of the first quarter to push out to a seven-point advantage.
Pinckert responded with the first score of the second quarter, hitting a three of her own, but from there the scoring would dry up for SU, with a layup made by Julia Roth at the 4:35 mark to make the score 26-19 being the last points SU would score in the half. Catholic scored ten unanswered to make the score 36-19 at half.
The third quarter would be a similar story, as Catholic outscored Susquehanna 21-6 in the frame, putting the game out of reach and continuing an efficient offensive display, shooting 40 percent in the third quarter and jumping up to 46.6 percent in the fourth. SU managed their best offensive quarter in the fourth with 16 points, but could not cut into the gap.
Pinckert led Susquehanna in scoring with nine points, while Roth led the team in rebounds with 12. Olivia Brandt also reached double-digits in boards with 11.
The River Hawks will get a chance to get back into the win column on Wednesday evening, welcoming Goucher College for their final home game of the regular season, tipping off at 7 pm in O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
