Men's Lacrosse Rolls Wilkes In 2023 Lidlifter

EDWARDSVILLE, PA (February 15, 2023) -- Sophomores Brennan Lorence and Chris Ciccarello each potted five goals apiece, as the Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team coasted past host Wilkes University 21-6 in non-conference action to start the 2023 campaign. 

The River Hawks (1-0) outscored the Colonels in all four quarters, while scoring the game's first eight goals capped by a tally from Lorence with 12:43 to go in the first half. After a pair of tallies by Wilkes, first-year Jimmy Maro started a six-goal run to end the quarter to make the score 14-2 at the break. 

Ciccarello tallied a pair of scores in the third quarter including one with 5:11 to play in the frame to make the score 17-3 going into the fourth. The run continued for Susquehanna, leading by 17 at one point in rolling to the victory. 

Ciccarello finished with career-highs of five goals and six points, adding four ground balls as well. Lorence tied his career high with his five goals, putting eight shots on goal while picking up three ground balls. Fellow sophomore Jack Gaillard led the way with four assists, potting a goal for five points. 

Senior Rob Swenson finished with a goal and two assists, while sophomores Kieran Thomas and Hayden Grecsek each scored a pair of goals. Five others tallied for the River Hawks, who posted their most goals in a non-conference game since knocking off Wilkes 24-5 back in 2016. 

Face-off man Ryan Prum finished 9-for-13 at the dot, adding four ground balls, while Alexander Messina won seven of his nine draws. Garrett Laub continued the dominance at the dot, earning five wins in six draws as the River Hawks won 22 of 29 face-offs. 

Victor Simone finished with a team-high two caused turnovers, adding three ground balls. Jozef Korpics and Auggie Granatelli combined to make eight saves in cage for the River Hawks, who won the season opener for the second straight year. 

Colby Opromolla finished with three points on a goal and two assists for Wilkes, while Luke Weakland and Joseph Kozlowski each scored twice in the loss. 

Susquehanna will be back in action on the road Saturday, February 18 at Lycoming College for a 1 p.m. non-conference tilt with the Warriors in Williamsport, PA.
