Late Rally Comes Up Short As Men's Lacrosse Falls To No. 8 Dickinson

SELINSGROVE, PA (February 22, 2023) -- The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team scored five of the last seven goals Wednesday against No. 8 Dickinson College, but couldn't complete the comeback as the River Hawks fell 12-7 in non-conference action from Sassafras Multipurpose Complex. 

The River Hawks (2-1) opened the scoring on a goal by sophomore Kieran Thomas early in the first quarter, but Dickinson finished the period with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead heading to the second. 

The second period was a high scoring frame, as Dickinson outscored Susquehanna 6-3 to take a 10-4 lead at the break. In the second quarter, Thomas scored from Rob Swenson to make the score 4-2, but James Isaacson tallied to start a six-goal spurt for the Red Devils to make the score 10-2. 

Sophomore Chris Ciccarello netted an unassisted goal and then set up Brennan Lorence with two seconds before halftime to send the game to the break. After halftime, Ciccarello assisted anthoer Lorence goal early in the fourth quarter to make it 11-5. Nick Remund followed with a goal with six minutes, and Lorence scored again in the waning seconds but it wasn't enough as Dickinson held on for the win. 

Lorence led the way with three goals on nine shots, while Ciccarello added four points on three assists and a goal. Defensively, Ted Zaborowski finished with four ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Gavin Rossman finished with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. In goal, Jozef Korpics finished with a massive 24 saves, adding eight ground balls. The 24 saves tied a career-high. 

Dickinson finished with 53-24 edge in shots, while winning 17 of the game's 23 face-offs. Isaacson tallied four points on three goals an an assist, while Ethan Gess, Owen Porter and Sascha Gannon all scored twice. John McKee added 14 face-off wins and 10 ground balls in the win for the Red Devils. 

Susquehanna will host King's College Saturday, February 25 at noon on Sassafras Multipurpose Field in non-conference play.
