SELINSGROVE, PA (February 25, 2023) -- The sophomore trio of
Chris Ciccarello,
Jack Gaillard and
Brennan Lorence combined for 21 points Saturday, as the River Hawk men's lacrosse team breezed past visiting King's College (PA) 19-6 in non-conference play form Sassafras Field.
The River Hawks (3-1) scored the first five goals of the game, and led 6-1 after 15 minutes following a goal from
Kieran Koenke. The second quarter would be an offensive explosion for Susquehanna, as the hosts potted 11 goals including four from Lorence and two each from
Connor Aitken and Gailard. After leading 17-3 at the half, Susquehanna wouldn't allow a goal in the third and then got scores from
Javier Lacen and
Sean Carothers in the fourth quarter to put a bow on the scoring for SU.
Ciccarello finished with a career-high eight points, scoring three times to go with five assists which was also a career-high. Gaillard added three goals and four assists, and Lorence finished with a team-high five goals to go with three ground balls. 13 players in all got onto the scoresheet with either a goal or assist for the River Hawks, as
Jake Turner had two assists and Koenke and Aitken each finished with a pair of goals.
Ryan Prum was his usual solid self on face-offs with 12 wins in 15 attempts, adding six ground balls, while draw partner
Jared Tavernite won 8-of-9 on Saturday while scooping up four loose balls.
Marshall Woodrosky added three ground balls in the win, and
Aidan Kennedy and
Marc Manfredonia each finished with team-highs of three caused turnovers. Augie Granatelli got the start in goal for Susquehanna, allowing six goals while stopping five shots to earn the win.
SU outshot its visitors 44-16 while winning 23 of the game's 29 face-offs. The River Hawks were also 2-for-4 on extra-man opportunities, while earning a 38-20 edge in ground balls. King's (0-2) got two goals and an assist from Jack Wall, while Ben Spencer also scored twice in the loss. Matt Wall stopped eight shots in cage for the Monarchs, and Joe Plachcinski came in off the bench to make six saves as well.
Susquehanna continues its five-game home stand on Wednesday, March 1, hosting Misericordia University at 4 p.m. in non-conference play.
