SELINSGROVE, Pa. (March 11, 2023) – Susquehanna University men's lacrosse were unable to get a rhythm going at home versus Haverford Saturday, being dealt an 8-5 defeat. Both defenses played well in the low-scoring contest, though it was one too many turnovers for the River Hawks that halted them from gaining ground on the Fords.
Brennan Lorence netted a hat trick with one assist to lead the River Hawks' scoring on the day. Goalie
Jozef Korpics tallied 16 saves on a day where Haverford led 44-23 in shots. Susquehanna was guilty of 30 turnovers, with 12 caused by the Fords, but did close the door on all seven of Haverford's man-up chances, while taking advantage of its lone extra-man chance of the afternoon.
Both sides exchanged goals to start, beginning with Haverford's Tyler Vendetti roughly two minutes into the contest, countered by
Brennan Lorence for SU about four minutes later off a feed from Matthew Faggiolo. After two straight scores from Haverford, Lorence again came through with a late first quarter goal from
Jack Gaillard to make it 3-2 after one. The Fords again responded with two straight to start the second before
Chris Ciccarello produced a man-up score from
Kieran Thomas to make it 5-3 with 7:17 left in the half. It appeared that would be the margin to go into halftime, but the Fords had one more in them with five seconds left following a timeout, when Peter Christians ran down the right wing and fired a score with one second on the clock to lead 6-3 at the break.
The second half saw just two scores each side, beginning with another Christians score for Haverford, then
Nick Remund and Lorance each tallying Susquehanna scores to wrap the third quarter.
Andrew Arth scored for Haverford early in the fourth to serve as the last score.
Susquehanna heads off to Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, Mar. 15 before welcoming Hood for a home matchup on Saturday, Mar. 18.
