Riefenhauser Reaches 100 Career Points as WLAX Splits Matches in Florida

CLEARWATER, FLA. (March 14, 2023) – Junior Heather Riefenhauser collected her 100th career point in the second of Susquehanna women's lacrosse's two-game stay in Florida during spring break. Her century milestone was reached on a free position score late in the River Hawks' Tuesday matchup against University of New England towards a 14-8 win. Susquehanna was handed a 20-6 defeat to Shenandoah on Monday.

The River Hawks, now 5-3 on the season, take on Lycoming next Wednesday, Mar. 22 in their last non-conference test prior to opening their Landmark season against Drew at home on Saturday, Mar. 25.

Both sides exchanged quick goals to start the game, with Shenandoah's Reilly Cisar getting the first score of the day with 11:37 remaining in the first, then Caitlin Harvey tying the match up just 14 seconds later. The Hornets swarmed for two straight scores to end the quarter, then went on a 7-2 run in the second quarter for a 10-3 lead at halftime. Kim Nagengast scored for the River Hawks with 12:41 left in the second to cut into Shenandoah's lead at 4-2, but the Hornets answered with three consecutive scores and six of the next seven to close out the half, interrupted by Allie Kutler's goal with 2:19 to go in the half.

Shenandoah continued on with a 6-1 third quarter, with Abby Andrus providing Susquehanna's lone goal of the period to trail 16-4 after three. Katie Quackenboss and Allie Kutler opened the fourth quarter with scores to make it a 16-6 game, but the Hornets closed out the game with four straight scores.

Shenandoah led 31-13 in shots, including 24-12 in shots on goal. The Hornets' scoring was led by Ainsley Buckner, who had six points on three goals and three assists. Emily Lerch with five points on four goals and one assist and Emma Stiffler with two goals and three assists. Madison Re had four goals.

Allie Kutler had two goals to lead Susquehanna, while Liv Owen and Riefenhauser each had one assist.

SUSQUEHANNA 14, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 8
The match began in a seesaw struggle, with Sydney Balotin getting UNE ahead to start with 12:04 to go in the first, followed by Heather Riefenhauser tying things up two minutes later. Abby McHallam connected for UNE with 5:23 remaining in the period, only for Abby Andrus to tie the match up with 18 seconds remaining off a feed from Riefenhauser for a 2-2 score after one.

Liv Owen opened the second with a go-ahead score off a pass from Hanna McNamara, then Caitlin Harvye doubled SU's lead two minutes later from Abby Andrus. The Nor'Easters' Sydney Balotin got the lead back down to one, only for Andrus and Harvey to connect for two straight River Hawks scores to go up 6-3. After another UNE score from Kimmy Staniar, McNamara pushed the lead back up to three to go into halftime ahead 7-4.

SU set some distance in the third quarter. Andrus opened the second half with a score from Kelsey Homberg, then after a Nor'Easter score the River Hawks got three straight scores from McNamara, Andrus, and Emma Kelleher to make it 11-5, then after a UNE scored three more in a row to open the fourth from Kelleher, Homberg, and Riefenhauser, with the latter's free position score giving her 100 points for her career.

Susquehanna led 38-22 in shots and 21-15 in shots on goal. Andrus finished the day with five points on four goals and one assist, while Homberg had four points on one goal and three assists. Harvey, Riefenhauser, and McNamara all had three points on two goals and one assist.

Emmy Regan played the first three quarters in net, posting six saves for the win. Aerin O'Brien had two saves in her fourth quarter shift.
