Stewart Moan Gathers 300 Career Wins as Offense Explodes for 17-7 Landmark Win at Drew

SELINSGROVE, PA. (March 25, 2023) – A career-best eight goals from Brennan Lorence and seven consecutive fourth-quarter goals for the River Hawks cemented a solid outing for Susquehanna men's lacrosse Saturday to open Landmark Conference play, winning on the road at Drew 17-7.

The well-fought win awarded Head Coach Stewart Moan his 300th career win Saturday in his 34-year collegiate head coaching career, including 135 in his 16 years leading the River Hawks, as Susquehanna improved to 6-4 on the season. Lorence's eight-goal day boosted his Landmark-leading goals total to 36. Kieran Thomas also thrived on the scoring end with four goals on the day, while Josef Korpicz garnered 11 saves in his full day of work in goal to pick up the win.

The two sides fought evenly for much of the contest. Jack Gaillard and Steven Musser scored two of the first three goals to give SU a 2-1 lead partway through the first, though Drew answered with two quicks scores late in the quarter to seize a 3-2 advantage. This didn't last long as Kieran Thomas tied the game at 3-3 with 44 seconds remaining in what would be the first of a four-goal run for the River Hawks. Following Lorence's first score of the day to start the second and put Susquehanna back in front, Thomas followed with two consecutive goals within a span of 41 seconds to take a 6-4 lead. Drew would get one back with 4:36 to play in the half to get to within one, but SU swiftly answered again, this time with Lorence getting goal number two on the afternoon to head into halftime up 7-4.

Lorence's name would be called on again in the third quarter as he scored all three of the River Hawks; goals in the period. He netted the opening two of the period to put SU ahead 9-4, the first on a man-down situation from a Chris Ciccarello assist with 12:34 showing in the third, then another one with 11:03 showing unassisted. The Rangers ended their silence with a goal with 5:23 on the third quarter clock, but Lorence clapped back just over a minute later with his fifth score of the game. Drew closed out the quarter with consecutive scores to make it a 10-7 game after three, but it would be all River Hawks from then on.

Ted Zaborowski began the seven-goal fourth quarter with an early strike at 14:19 from Ciccarello. Thomas connected for his fourth and final goal of the game just over two minutes later, then Rob Swenson got in the goal-scoring category with 11:33 to play. Lorence picked up three of the final four goals for SU to close out his scoring day, with Charles Brought IV getting his first goal of the season in between.

The River Hawks led in shots 47-28 with a 31-18 lead in shots on goal. SU cleared on 17-of-25 attempts to Drew's 9-of-20 and caused 16 turnovers with 46 ground balls. Ryan Prum took every faceoff, winning 19-of-28, and picked up 11 ground balls to lead the team.

Susquehanna has two home dates this week, starting with a midweek non-conference home date against Gwynedd Mercy Wednesday at 4 P.M., then back to league play versus Catholic Friday at 4 P.M.
