SELINSGROVE, PA (March 29, 2023) – Susquehanna men's lacrosse soared over Gwynedd Mercy Wednesday, slinging 10 first-quarter goals that propelled them to a 19-5 win. The non-conference victory gives the River Hawks a 7-4 overall record entering their home Landmark match Friday against Catholic at 4 P.M.
Brennan Lorence and
Connor Aitken headlined the scoring with Lorence gathering seven points on six goals and one assist and Aitken five goals.
Chris Ciccarello had a hat trick and two assists for a five-point day while
Kieran Thomas had four assists.
Jack Gaillard finished with two assists with the remaining goals coming one each from
Hayden Grecsek,
Jimmy Maro and
Nick Remund.
The River Hawks opened up a 6-0 lead to start the game as goalie
Jozef Korpics surrendered just one Gwynedd Mercy goal in the first quarter, with four more River Hawks goals accounted for a 10-1 lead after the first 15.
Auggie Granatelli took over for Korpics to start the second in a seven-save day, allowing just four goals the remainder of the way. Susquehanna tallied two more goals in the second, five in the third, and two in the fourth to soar to the win.
The River Hawks outshot the Griffins 56-29, including 32-12 in shots on goal. SU won 24 of 28 faceoffs, with
Ryan Prum and
Jared Tavernite both winning 8-of-8,
Alexander Messina taking 6-of-6, and
Garrett Laub 2-of-6. The maroon and orange caused nine of the Griffins' 20 turnovers and scooped 45 ground balls, led by five from both
Marshall Woodrosky and
Jared Tavernite.
