SELINSGROVE PA (March 26, 2023) – Susquehanna men's tennis completed their first weekend of Landmark Conference play this weekend, beginning Saturday and Scranton and Sunday at Drew. The River Hawks waged a hard-fought battle against the Wolves in a 7-2 defeat, with three singles matches decided in the third set, then got handed a 9-0 decision to the Rangers.
SCRANTON 7, SUSQUEHANNA 2
The two doubles team of
Tim Basta and
Conor Ryan took an 8-1 victory over Nathan Tauber and Steven Prosperino to give the River Hawks one point after doubles. At six singles,
Kyle Wagner pulled out a hard-fought 7-5 win in set one over Sal Sullivan, then a 6-3 win in the second set to take the victory.
Three singles matches were decided in the third set. At two, Basta took the opening round over Patrick O'Mara 6-2, then O'Mara countered with a 6-2 win of his own in set two and ultimately a 10-7 decision in game three. At four singles,
John Duncan answered a 6-4 downing to Jason Budrys in the opening frame with a 6-1 victory in set two, setting up a dramatic third set that ultimately produced a 11-9 decision in favor of Budrys. Over at five
Thomas Hallahan defeated John Sinclair 6-2 in set one, but Sinclair came back to take set two 6-1 and 10-2 in set three.

The host Rangers took decisive wins at doubles, with the closest match serving as
Alex Baker and
Carson Barry's 8-2 two-doubles defeat to Dan Blumenthal and John Dickey.
John Duncan took his opponent Bret Schuler to three sets at four singles, winning his first set 6-4 before Schuler replied with 6-3 and 10-6 wins.
