SELINSGROVE, PA (March 4, 2023) -- Sophomore
Chris Ciccarello scored a career-high seven goals Saturday afternoon against Neumann University, leading the River Hawks to a 17-5 win on Sassafras Field in non-conference action.
Neumann (2-3) opened the scoring with a Wyatt Belotti unassisted goal, but Ciccarello tallied from
Jack Gaillard a little over a minute later to deadlock the game. The Ciccarello goal would start a 5-0 run by the River Hawks, as the sophomore tallied three times in the spurt while Gaillard and
Nick Remund each tallied to send the game to the second quarter with SU up 5-1.
The Knights once again opened the frame with a goal by Belotti, but Susquehanna answered with three straight goals to take the game to halftime with the score 8-2. Sophomore
Connor Aitken,
Steven Musser and sophomore
Kieran Thomas all scored in the second period for SU.
Belotti would repeat with another goal to start a period, pulling Neumann to within five at 8-3 with a goal at 13:50 of the third quarter. SU came right back with a goal of its own, as
Sean Carothers tallied followed by goals from Aitken and Ciccarello twice to make the score 12-3. After the Knights got a goal with 3:09 left in the third, Aitken and Ciccarello each were set up by Gaillard to make it 14-4 going to the fourth.
That would be plenty of offense for the River Hawks, as
Jozef Korpics made 11 stops in goal before handing keeping duties off to Augie Granatelli for the final eight minutes to tally five stops in securing the victory. SU outshot its visitors 41-26 on the day, while finishing successful on all 24 clears on the day.
Ciccarello needed just 10 shots on goal to record his career-high goal total, as the sophomore now sits with 26 points through five games. Ciccarello had 24 points in 16 games as a first-year player.
Gaillard continued to rack up the helpers on Saturday, dishing out five to lead the team with 19 for the season. Aitken registered career-highs with three goals and five points, while his six shots were also a career-high.
Kieran Koenke dished out two assists as well, while Thomas and Carothers each posted a pair of goals in the win.
Sophomore
Aidan Kennedy led the way with four caused turnovers defensively in the win, while
Gavin Rossman and
Ryan Prum each picked up four ground balls. Sophomore
Sean Yamada also tallied three ground balls in the win.
Belotti finished with three goals on seven shots for the Knights in the loss.
