HUNTINGDON, PA (April 12, 2023) – Susquehanna University men's lacrosse handled their local rivals at Juniata quite well on Wednesday, coming out of Huntingdon with a 16-6 win. The River Hawks set the tone with three straight goals to start the game and perennial scorer
Brennan Lorence leading the way with five goals en route to SU evening their Landmark record to 2-2 with three games to play and 8-6 overall.
Jack Gaillard netted six points on two goals and four assists, while
Chris Ciccarello accounted for five points on two goals and three assists.
Kieran Thomas had two goals, while
Matthew Faggioli,
Hayden Grecsek,
Ben Polich,
Jake Turner, and
Ted Zaborowski each had one goal and
Steven Musser one assist.
The first three scores came in the first six minutes from Gaillard off an assist from Ciccarello, then unassisted scores from Lorence and Faggioli. The Eagles' only threat in the first quarter was a score from Aiden Duran with 5:50 left in the first before Turner and Lorence both cut loose with scores to end the first quarter 5-1. After a scoreless first eight minutes, the latter half of the second quarter turned into a barrage of goals, with SU outscoring JC 5-2 for a 10-3 halftime lead, aided by scores from Thomas, two from Lorence, Ciccarello, and Zaborowski. The River Hawks tacked on five more in the third quarter by way of
Lorence, Grecsek, Thomas, Gaillard, and Ciccarello, with a late-game score from Polich to finish things out.
Auggie Granatelli got the start in net for SU, tallying seven saves on 13 shots faced to improve to 2-0 on the season. The River Hawks outshot the Eagles 50-25, including 40-13 in shots on goal, and won 17-of-25 faceoffs, carried out by five wins from
Alexander Messina and four each from
Jared Tavernite,
Ryan Prum, and
Garrett Laub.
Brennan Lorence pumped his Landmark-leading goal totals to 52 and his third-best point total to 60, with the sophomore also upping his career total to 86 goals and 118 points. Ciccarello ranks fifth in the Landmark with 63 points, sixth in assists with 27, and ninth with 36 goals. Gaillard is fifth in the league with 28 assists.
The River Hawks' next contest sees them host Moravian this Saturday at 1 P.M.
