Momentum Changes Ends Up in Favor of Moravian

BETHLEHEM, PA (April 19, 2023) – After a four-day wait, the Susquehanna women's lacrosse team played their Landmark matchup at Moravian Wednesday after storms postponed Saturday's original date. While weather wasn't an issue this night, the River Hawks and Greyhounds waged in lightning rounds of scoring that saw back-and-forth momentum. Susquehanna responded from a 13-8 deficit to make it 13-12 halfway through the fourth quarter, but Moravian would be the one with the final turn of momentum to score four straight goals to take the 17-13 win. The River Hawks are now 9-8 overall and 2-3 in Landmark play going into their final two conference games of the regular season.

Heather Riefenhauser led SU with three goals and four points, including opening up the scoring to give the River Hawks an early 1-0 lead. Moravian's Brittany Bill scored the Greyhounds' first three goals, followed by another from Eliza Fantazzi to give the home team the 4-1 lead. Susquehanna got two of the next three scores from Nikki Genovese and Liv Owen to cut the lead to 5-3, but Moravian once again strung together four straight goals for a 9-3 lead. The River Hawks closed out the second with two straight strikes from Emma Kelleher and Katie Kogler, then opened the third the same way with two from Riefenhauser as SU inched closer once more to make it 9-7.

The Greyhounds again halted the River Hawks as they came back with three straight goals to go up 12-7, but the orange and maroon remained resilient to get five of the next six goals and offer a serious threat at 13-12 with 12:18 to play in the fourth quarter. Homberg had the first two, followed by one from Allie Kutler, one from Hannah McNamara, and Kutler once more. The scoring stopped and tension mounted for the next five-and-a-half minutes, but next score would come from the Greyhounds as Megan Donnelly offered up the next score, which led to three more consecutive Moravian goals to up their lead to 17-12 with 3:33 to go. Owen scored just moments later, but it would turn out to be Susquehanna's last gasp.

Emmy Regan issued 11 saves on an evening where Moravian led in shots 43-28, including 28-23 in shots on goal. Susquehanna was successful on 5-of-7 free position shots to Moravian's 5-of-10, while the Greyhounds won 20 draw controls to the River Hawks' 12.

Homberg's two goals brings her closer to the century mark in points with 94 points and 74 goals. Riefenhauser's four-point day gets her to 124 points on 72 goals and 52 assists. Harvey won three draw controls for 95 for her career, five away from 100. Owen's two goals also brings her closer to the 100-point milestone at 93 on 48 goals and 45 assists.

Susquehanna's final two Landmark matches will prove absolutely vital towards a possible tournament spot, beginning with hosting Goucher on Senior Day Saturday at 1:00 p.m., where the team will honor goalie Regan, and traveling to Scranton next Saturday, April 29 at 1:00 p.m.
