Men's Soccer Faces Stiff Challenge in Opener vs. Misericordia

SELINSGROVE, PA - A third-minute goal put the Susquehanna men's soccer team behind early at home versus Misericordia Friday in both teams' season opener, though the River Hawks stabilized to keep it a 1-0 match going into halftime. On a night where shots were at a premium, the Cougars' 10-5 lead in shots gave them the edge to add to their lead in the second half with two quick goals in the 53rd and 54th minutes.

The opening goal came off a clear attempt by defender Darin Martin, who attempted to kick the ball out off a cross from the right wing that went into the back of the net. Susquehanna nearly got one back shortly after when Max Paczewski's shot was knocked away on a team save. Coming out of halftime the Cougars netted a pair of their own, when Nicholas Passaniti scored in the 53rd minutes, followed by Max Gariano's score from Reese Dieffenderfer.

Susquehanna led 4-2 in shots on goal, with Paczewski firing off three with two on goal. while Misericordia led 7-1 in corner kicks.

The River Hawks' next assignment is a home matchup against Haverford Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
