Seniors Dominate on Senior Day in Big 2-1 Win over Elizabethtown

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna field hockey celebrated its senior class with a 2-1 win over Elizabethtown on Saturday. Senior Sophia Prata, among eight from the Class of 2025 recognized as part of the pre-game festivities, scored the game-winner in the third quarter. The River Hawks held off the Blue Jays to go 4-for-4 so far in Landmark Conference action, staying atop the conference standings and tied with Catholic for perfect league records.

The River Hawks jumped ahead late in the first quarter from a penalty quarter delivered by Lydia Hidlay. Her delivery found Kari Schmidt, who picked out Mady Quigley to tap home from close range. The second quarter was when the game opened up, with the River Hawks taking ten shots in both the second and third quarters to four and two respectively for the Blue Jays.

The visitors threatened to spoil the festivities with a goal just after half-time also coming from a corner, as Drew Bridges scored for the Blue Jays in the 34th minute. The River Hawks had an instant response, however, as just under three minutes later, Prata had the ball in the back of the net after finding just enough space for a shot.

On the day, the River Hawks celebrated their eight seniors, including Rebecca Ripans, Lexi Fumanti, Schmidt, Alli Kiley, Kate Ausmus, Hidlay, Prata, and goalkeeper Ashley Derrick, who made five saves in the contest.

At the final whistle, the shot counts equaled 29 for Susquehanna and nine for Elizabethtown, with 15 Susquehanna shots finding the target to seven for the Blue Jays.

The River Hawks move to 8-4 on the campaign with the win and 4-0 in the Landmark. They take on SUNY Geneseo on Monday on the road before a short turnaround to another Landmark clash with Goucher on home soil the following day.
