ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - For the second straight match, Susquehanna University women's soccer ended up on the short end of a 1-0 Landmark road contest, this time at Elizabethtown on Saturday. The difference maker was Maddie McWhinney's goal from 35 yards out in the 30th minute that went top center of the goal.
Susquehanna turned the heat up in the second half with six shots, while finishing with three shots on goal on the day. E-Town, meanwhile, finished the afternoon with ten shots, including five on goal. While SU goalkeeper
Katie Henchy helped keep the game tight with four saves, the River Hawks were unable to push across the equalizer. Blue Jays keeper Adrienne McGallicher countered with three saves, including a pair in the second half. Kalie Qualie,
Morgan Stickley, and
Gigi Duncan each had two shots for Susquehanna, with Stickley, Qualia and
Ava Billmeyer each having one shot on goal.
Saturday's matchup puts the River Hawks in a less-than-desirable predicament to start off their Landmark Conference season at 0-3-1 and 4-7-2 overall. Adding to the trouble was that Susquehanna has pent the last three games on the road to start the month of October. They hope a return home will reverse their fortunes as they prepare to host Goucher on Wednesday at 7 p.m., then Moravian on homecoming Saturday, Oct. 19 in a special 4 p.m. kickoff time.
