Volleyball Falls to Scranton Friday Night

SELINSGROVE, PA (October 18, 2024) - The Susquehanna University volleyball team fell to the University of Scranton Royals 3-1 Friday night at O.W. Houts Gymnasium for their fourth consecutive loss.

The River Hawks dropped the first set 25-17 before rebounding to win the next one 25-21 to even the match up at 1-1, but the Royals won the last two sets 25-16 and 25-15 to seal the win. In that first set Susquehanna was outplayed with just eight kills and an attack percentage of .146 compared to Scranton's 21 kills and .347 attack percentage.

The second set was much closer. The River Hawks had one fewer kill than the Royals 16-15, and the same number of errors at four for each team but had a slightly higher attack percentage of .306 to the opponents .300, which was just enough to squeak out the set win.

In set three Scranton won the kill battle 13-10 and once again both teams had the same number of errors with six, but the Royals had a much better attack percentage of .233 to just .114 for the River Hawks.

Scranton dominated the fourth set with 17 kills and a .400 attack percentage while Susquehanna had just nine kills and a .162 attack percentage. Scranton never trailed in the set and sealed out the statement win on the road.

Amanda Gore led the team in kills with 13, the only player with double-digit kills. Emily Kowalski finished with eight kills, Ryan Rorls with seven, and Brie Livezey with six. Kiera Roach had 30 assists and 12 digs in the match, which was second the team to Jessica Sack's 16 digs, while Kyndall Mason finished just short of the double-digit mark with nine digs.

The loss drops the River Hawks to 12-11 on the season and 3-3 in Landmark Conference play. Susquehanna plays tomorrow in their Homecoming matches against Drew University at noon and York College of Pennsylvania at 4 p.m.
