Volleyball Celebrates Homecoming Sweep of Drew, York (Pa.)

SELINSGROVE, PA (October 19, 2024) - The Susquehanna University volleyball team sprung back into the win column Saturday with a doubleheader sweep on Homecoming, first sweeping Drew 3-0 before winning a back-and-forth contest with York College of Pennsylvania 3-2. 

Against Drew, the River Hawks made a statement with two comfortable set wins to start the match 25-17 and 25-16 before winning a much closer set three to complete the sweep 25-20. Susquehanna beat out Drew in every major statistical category, but the big ones were more kills at 41-37, fewer errors with just nine to Drew's 21, and a higher attack percentage at .296 for the River Hawks compared to just .136 for the Rangers.  

Amanda Gore and Emily each had double-digit kills at 14 and 12, respectively. Kiera Roach once again led the team in assists by a huge margin with 34, and Jessica Sack did the same with digs as she finished with 20. 

Next up was York College of PA, where the River Hawks came back from down 2-1 after three sets to win the match 3-2. York won the first set comfortably 25-18 but the next three sets were close with Susquehanna winning set two 26-24 and set four 25-23, while York won set three 25-21. In the final set the River Hawks went on a late surge to win 15-9 and win the match. 

For the match York College had more kills and a higher attack percentage with 72 kills compared to Susquehanna's 52 kills, and a .264 attack percentage to just .234 for the River Hawks. However, Susquehanna committed just 19 errors to York's 29, which were crucial throughout the close match. 

Kowalski, Gore, Ryan Rorls all had double-digit kills. Kowalski with 13 and Gore and Rorls each with 10, but Brie Livezey and Emma Willow both stepped up with eight kills each. Roach finished with 43 assists, and three River Hawks finished with double-digit digs. Regan Kane led the team with 13 digs, Sack finished with 12, and Rorls with 10. 

The sweep improves the River Hawks to 14-11 on the season and 4-3 in Landmark Conference play. Susquehanna's next match is on the road on Friday, Oct. 25 at Goucher.
