SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna men's soccer completed their 2024 non-conference schedule on Wednesday night, playing out a 1-1 draw with Stevenson University. The game saw two goals in the first half and a penalty kick missed by the Mustangs.
The visitors struck first in the 23rd minute when Ellis Amo-Gottfried poked home from close range following a goal-line scramble. The River Hawks fought back, however, and after another effort from Amo-Gottfried was turned away from the goal-line by
Clay Yannazzone,
Zak Kreisher put the River Hawks level with his first collegiate goal. The sophomore turned and fired past the goalkeeper off a free kick from
John Kuderka.Â
Paczewski came close in the 62nd minute when he was played in by
Angelo Zografos and fired just wide to the right of the goal. He had a second chance saved late on, but not before a foul in the penalty area sent Stevenson to the spot. Gianfranco Vitella stepped up to face
Tony Burns, but with Burns guessing the right way, the effort found only the left post.
Despite just two shots apiece in the first half, the final shot count was 9-7 in favor of the River Hawks. Burns made two saves in the second half. In addition to Kreisher and Paczewski,
Hayden Swinehart also contributed with two shots. Stevenson had five corners to Susquehanna's three, and the hosts committed 16 fouls to the Mustangs' 14.
The River Hawks move to 6-1-3 on the campaign, having gone unbeaten in their last six games, their longest such stretch since a 10-game run in 2012, when the team won the Landmark Conference. They take on Lycoming on the road next time out on Saturday, before returning home to take on Catholic in one week's time.
