Men's Soccer Comes Up Short at League-Leading Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - Susquehanna men's soccer dropped their first Landmark Conference game on the road Saturday, taking the short hike to Lycoming where the Warriors claimed a 3-1 victory to add just the second loss to the River Hawks' 2024 schedule through 11 matches at 6-2-3.

The River Hawks fell behind in the 11th minute on a penalty kick, with Christian Woobay putting Lycoming ahead. They showed fight immediately after conceding, with two chances to equalize within two minutes after going 1-0 down. They didn't have to wait long until a chance turned into a goal, with Tom O'Keefe finding space on the right flank and finding a sliding Max Paczewski in the penalty area, who got just the touch O'Keefe's cross needed to equalize.

The teams went into half-time deadlocked at a goal apiece, but Lycoming came out of the break with a goal on the hour mark from Kenny Clapp, then added a third in the 80th minute from Aidan Stillman to all but wrap up the conference win to move the Warriors to 1-0-1 in Landmark play and 9-1-2 overall.

Tony Burns got the start in goal for the River Hawks, making six saves as the River Hawks were outshot 18-7. Paczewski led the visitors with two shots, including his equalizer. The River Hawks committed ten fouls to Lycoming's nine, while Susquehanna took eight corners to the Warriors' 13.

The River Hawks return home for a clash against Catholic on Wednesday, the first of their seven remaining matches, all Landmark contests. Head coach Jim Findlay's team
defeated Wilkes soundly in last week's conference opener, 5-0. Following the Cardinals they head on the road for a pair at Elizabethtown next Saturday and Goucher Wednesday, Oct. 16.
