SELINSGROVE, PA - The Susquehanna University women's tennis team completed their fall season Saturday on Homecoming Weekend with a home match against Catholic in Landmark action. The River Hawks hoped to complete the opening leg of their campaign with another conference win after beating Elizabethtown back on Sept. 22. However, the day belonged to the Cardinals as these red birds posted a 6-1 victory, giving them a 5-1 overall record and Susquehanna a 3-3 record going into the winter.
Catholic did so by winning all three doubles matches, the first two by 6-2 scores and the third by a 6-1 score, then capturing all but one singles match with convincing scores. SU first-year
Kaiya Reisinger did spoil the Cardinals' hopes for a shutout as she took her five singles opponent Paige Brightwell to a 6-3 and 7-6 (2) victory. Reisinger has been the welcomed addition Susquehanna was looking for as she completes her debut fall season at 4-0 in singles (3-0 at five, 1-0 at six) and 3-0 in doubles with partner
Claire Gallagher (2-0 at two, 1-0 at three).
The River Hawks completed their best start in the fall season since going 4-2 during the 2021-22 campaign. Along with Reisinger the team has seen great performances from newcomers
Amelia Maguire, who went 4-2 between a 3-2 record at four singles and 1-0 at five,
Macey DiBastiani, who posted a 2-1 mark and 2-0 in five singles matches, and
Mackenzie Romig, who has remained steady at three singles at 3-3.
Claire Gallagher has had tremendous success in the doubles competition with a 4-0 record, split between 3-0 with partner Reisinger after a 2-0 mark at two and 1-0 at three, while adding a 1-0 mark with partner
Abigail Freeman at three.
