SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna men's soccer were dealt a 3-0 defeat against Juniata on Wednesday night. The River Hawks, looking to keep pace in the Landmark Conference playoff picture, had the challenge of going up against this year's surprise frontrunners in the conference with the Eagles walking out of Selinsgrove with a 6-0-1 conference record. They did well in a scoreless first half, only for Juniata to tack on all its scores in the final 45.
Juniata held a 7-2 shooting advantage at half-time, but could not beat goalkeeper
Santiago Andino in the first half, who was called upon to make two saves in the first 45 minutes.
The River Hawks fell behind in the 56th minute when Jace Colino raced onto a through ball from Brandon Marzula and beat Andino in goal, and the Eagles doubled their advantage nine minutes later on a similar move capped off by Jalen Holliday's finish.
The game moved to 3-0 late on, with the final goal coming in the 80th minute from Gavin Rauhut. Although the River Hawks fought valiantly to come back, with chances for
Daniel Hartzell and
Zach Polovitch, the Eagles preserved a shutout.
The River Hawks were outshot 15-6 over the 90 minutes, with both starting goalkeepers making three saves. Juniata held a 5-2 advantage on corners and committed eight fouls to Susquehanna's six, although both teams were shown three yellow cards.
With this defeat, the River Hawks slip to 7-6-3, with a 2-5 record in Landmark play. They wrap up their regular season with games at home against Scranton and away to Drew, while still preserving a chance of reaching the Landmark playoffs.
