SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna women's soccer dropped their final home conference game of the 2024 season on Saturday, falling 3-0 to sixteenth-ranked Scranton behind early goals in both halves.
The Royals took the lead in the third minute when Niamh Healy scored in the second phase of a corner kick. A big chance came and went for the River Hawks to equalize in the seventh minute, with
Sydney Williams seeing a shot blocked after a good counter-attack and hold up play from
Rachel Rinehart. However, that was the River Hawks' only shot in the first half, while Scranton managed 11.
It took just two minutes into the second period for Scranton to add to their lead, with Samantha Goffice scoring in the 47th minute. They added a third in the 64th minute through Jenna Borelli, who scored on the rebound after a shot was parried away by
Katie Henchy in the Susquehanna goal.
The River Hawks were outshot on the day by a margin of 24 to three, with shots from Williams as well as
Ava Billmeyer and
Morgan Stickley. They committed six fouls to Scranton's five.
The defeat bumps River Hawks out of playoff contention, though have two more contests before completing their 2024 campaign. Next week Susquehanna welcomes Dickinson to town in a non-conference matchup to wrap up its home season, then travel to New Jersey next Saturday to face Landmark-opponent Drew.
