Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Dan Graham

Susquehanna, Dickinson Wage Close Battle in Scoreless Draw

SELINSGROVE, PA - In perhaps the most dramatic scoreless draw in recent memory, Susquehanna women's soccer dueled Dickinson Wednesday, with both sides bringing great energy and scoring chances. While credit goes to both defenses and goalkeepers in that regard, either side could have claimed a victory if a shot was slightly closer to the mark or the goal post and cross bar being an inch or two wider or taller.

Amelia Kopp almost had Red Devils goalie Sophia Kavulich beat when two of her shots kissed the framework. This first attempt came in the first half when she was tasked with a 25-yard free kick. She curled it to the right side, which hit the right post past the diving Kavulich. It then ricocheted to hit Kavulich in the back before going out of play. Her next attempt was late in the game with another shot just outside the box from the left side. Her shot was perfectly aimed top center, but almost too perfectly top center as it hit off the crossbar with just over two minutes to play in what was the last real scoring attempt for either side. In all the River Hawks had six shots on goal, all stopped short by Kavulich, while Susquehanna's Katie Henchy posted four saves on the night, including a pair of diving saves to keep the Red Devils off the board. Both times Dickinson looked to paint the top right corner, but it wasn't top or right enough as Henchy made a pair of sprawling saves. Dickinson finished with nine corner kicks and Susquehanna five.

Wednesday night's non-conference battle was Susquehanna's final home match of 2024, coming out 5-9-4 overall on the season and a final home mark of 3-3-2. The Centennial Conference Tournament-bound Red Devils leave Selinsgrove 9-4-3 overall. The River Hawks have one more test before closing the book on their season this Saturday on the road at Landmark-foe Drew, set for a 1 p.m. kickoff. SU is 1-5-2 in conference play this year, while the tournament-bound Rangers stand at 3-3-2 in Landmark play.
