Field Hockey Disarms Warriors, Takes 3-0 Win for 3-0 in Landmark

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna field hockey tallied 44 shots in a 3-0 win over Lycoming on Saturday, scoring one in the opening quarter and then two in 42 third-quarter seconds. Rebecca Ripans led the way with one goal and one assist.

The first quarter saw the River Hawks take five shots and earn three penalty corners in the first two and a half minutes alone. It was the eleventh of twelve shots in the period that resulted in a goal, with Ripans' hit goalwards was tapped in by Lydia Hidlay, who added a fourth goal to go with five assists on the campaign.

The River Hawks added another thirteen shots in the second quarter, while the Warriors managed their only two of the game, including forcing a save from Taytum Lombardi and a defensive save from Hidlay.

Despite taking their fewest shots in any quarter in the third period with eight, the River Hawks turned their one-goal lead into a three-goal lead in under a minute, scoring through Ripans' blast across goal teed up by a feed from Mady Quigley, and then Lauren Leibensperger immediately tapped in at the back post for a third. The River Hawks matched the season high in the Landmark Conference for shots with their 34th at the 47:07 mark before taking another ten more in the fourth quarter to bring the shot battle to 44-2.

Lombardi logged all 60 minutes for the River Hawks, making one save. Kari Schmidt led the River Hawks with eight shots, while Taylor Rothermel contributed six and Emma Campitelli took four. Hidlay, Kiara Koeller, and Alli Kiley took three, while Ripans, Lexi Fumanti, Riley Corbett, and Leibensperger all added two. Natalie Burleigh, Ashley Schreffler, Isa Napoli, Kate Ausmus, and Asia Daskalakis all managed a single shot. The hosts won 17 penalty corners while allowing just one.

The River Hawks have just completed the first leg of a three-game homestand, with games against Alvernia on Oct. 8 and Elizabethtown on Oct. 12 to come at Sassafras Field. The clash against Elizabethtown also represents Senior Day for the team.
