Late Goal Sinks Women's Soccer at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - Susquehanna women's soccer traveled to Lycoming on Saturday, pitted into a 2-2 matchup before the Warriors' Abigail Umhoeferm scored the game-winner in the 88th minute to swipe a late 3-2 Landmark Conference victory.

Susquehanna overcame an early 1-0 deficit following a Lycoming penalty-kick goal from Ella Magee by scoring the next two goals on its way to a 2-1 second-half lead. The first was settled by Kalie Quaglie in the 32nd minute off a corner kick from Olivia St. Amand, to go into halftime tied at one, with Susquehanna holding a 6-4 edge in shots. The second goal for the River Hawks came in similar fashion, with St. Amand's next corner falling dangerously in the penalty area, before eventually finding captain Chloe Michaels, whose shot found its way into the bottom right corner of the net through the crowd in front of the net, making her second career goal the go-ahead for the River Hawks in the 52nd minute.

Lycoming responded moments later off Mikayla Long's equalizer from Aubrey Williamson in the 66th minute. With the game winding down, the Warriors added the decisive blow when Abigail Umhoefer scored in the 88th minutes. SU first-year Ava Billmeyer had a chance to equalize with the last kick of the game but missed high. She led the River Hawks with four shots on the day, while Amelia Kopp also took two. Six other River Hawks, including both goalscorers, were able to contribute a shot. Katie Henchy contributed 3 saves while the shot battle was even at 12.

The River Hawks drop to 4-5-2 after the defeat and 0-1-1 in the Landmark Conference. Their next two games are on the road, heading to Catholic on Wednesday and a clash at Elizabethtown next Saturday. Next home game will be against Goucher on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
