SELINSGROVE, PA (October 5, 2024) - The Susquehanna University volleyball team sweep the Dig Pink Games against Moravian and Arcadia, sweeping both to extend their winning streak to six games and 12 straight set wins. Being home since last Saturday's tri-match, the River Hawks are 6-0 in Houts Gymnasium, while surpassing last year's win mark with the Arcadia victory for win number 11 of the season.
The Dig Pink Games began with Susquehanna taking on Moravian, which ended in a 3-0 sweep in favor of the River Hawks. They dominated the first two sets with scores of 25-15 and 25-14 before taking a much closer 25-20 set three.
The River Hawks never trailed in the first set and after a close 7-6 start to set two, Susquehanna outscored Moravian 18-8 the rest of the way. In set three the Greyhounds led 19-18 late, but a 7-1 River Hawk run sealed the sweep.
Individually, Ryan Rorls led the team with eight kills to go along with eight digs, Emma Willow finished right behind her with seven kills and four assisted blocks, and Emily Kowalski had six kills herself. Kiera Roach had another impressive performance with 26 assists and 10 digs, which were second on the team as Jessica Sack finished with 14 digs.
As a team Susquehanna beat out Moravian in almost every major category, but the most important were in attack percentage and errors. The River Hawks had 11 fewer errors than the Greyhounds and had a much higher attack percentage with .234 compared to just .102 for the Greyhounds.
After some time off, the River Hawks returned to action against Arcadia, and once again the team swept their opponent 3-0. This time the first two sets were competitive with the score being 25-20 and 25-19 before commanding the third set 25-14.
Susquehanna dominated the major statistical categories once again with 44 kills to Arcadia's 28, nine errors to Arcadia's 19, and a lopsided attack percentage of .337 to just .084 for Arcadia. Kowalski and Amanda Gore each had double-digit kills of 13 and 12, Roach finished with 32 assists, and Sack once again had double-digit digs with 13.
The sweep brings Susquehanna to 11-7 on the season and 2-0 in Landmark Conference play. Next weekend the River Hawks go back on the road starting with Lycoming Friday at 7 p.m. and the next day at Juniata starting at noon, before finishing the day with Washing and Lee at 2:30 p.m.
