Women's Basketball Celebrates Home Opener Defeating Eastern

SELINSGROVE, PA (November 13, 2024) - The Susquehanna University women's basketball returned to O.W. Houts Gymnasium with a dominant win over Eastern University 65-44 Wednesday night.

After a 32-point win over Penn College on Saturday, the River Hawk offense picked up right where they left off as they shot 8-15 (53.33%) from the field in the first quarter. Headlined by Julia Pinckert scoring eight points in the quarter on a perfect 3-3 shooting from the field and 2-2 from the free throw line.

That gave Susquehanna a 21-15 lead going into the second where the offense continued to surge, and the defense finally woke up. They shot 50% from the field again (8-16) and 60% from three (3-5) and held the Eagles to 4-14 shooting from the field (28.57%) and 1-6 from three (16.67%). The River Hawks won the quarter 19-9 and led 40-24 at halftime.

The offense went ice cold in the third quarter as Susquehanna shot 4-18 from the field (22.22%) and missed all their seven three-point attempts, but despite that Eastern could not gain any ground. The Eagles shot 3-18 from the field (16.67%) and the River Hawk lead increased 20 going into the fourth.

The fourth quarter was more of the same as both teams continued to struggle on offense. Susquehanna shot 4-13 from the field (30.77%) while Eastern shot 5-20 from the field (5-20%). The River Hawks won the quarter once again 13-12 to reach the final score of 65-44.

Julia Pinckert had an efficient game with 13 points and seven rebounds on 5-8 shooting, and Carly George had a double-double off the bench with 14 points and 12 rebounds on 6-10 shooting. The bench dominated for the River Hawks as they scored 32 points compared to just five for the Eagles and the team scored 36 points in the paint while holding their opponent to just 18.

Susquehanna improves to 2-1 on the season and will be off for the next seven days. They return to action on the road against Goucher, who is averaging 123 points per game in their first two games of the season, on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
