WILKES-BARRE, PA – The first victory for the Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team was met Saturday in overwhelming fashion as the River Hawks claimed a 15-5 win at King's (Pa.).
Brennan Lorence led the goal scoring with four, while
Jack Gaillard also posted a four-point day by way of two goals and two assists. Even more impressive was the River Hawks' defense shutting out the Monarchs until the third quarter while the offense built an 11-0 lead.
The day in goal for Susquehanna was shared by three men, with starter
Jozef Korpics totaling six saves in the first 28 minutes to earn the victory.
TJ Lynch was next up with two saves and one goal allowed over 8:35, while
Augie Granatelli closed out the last 22-and-a-half minutes with six saves and allowing four goals. The scoring was distributed among
Matthew Faggioli, who netted three goals, along with
Kieran Thomas becoming the fourth River Hawk with a multi-goal game with two.
Ted Zaborowski,
Steven Musser,
Nick Remund, and
Dominic Contella each had a score on the day, with Zaborowski and Remund each adding one assist.
Susquehanna converted on each of their two extra-man opportunities, while King's fared 2-of-4. The River Hawks forced the Monarchs into 13 turnovers and won 12 of 23 faceoffs, led by
Jared Tavernite's 7-of-10 showing at midfield, and outshot their hosts 35-33, including 24-19 in shots on goal.
