Men's Basketball Tripped Up in Overtime by Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - Despite 19 points from both Michael Pirone and Billy Anderson, the Susquehanna men's basketball team fell 97-102 in overtime to Lycoming on Wednesday night. The River Hawks led by as much as 17, but were unable to see the game out, as Lycoming shot 5-of-6 in the overtime period and 5-of-6 from the line in the same five minutes.

Although the River Hawks shot above 50% from the field at a 40-for-76 clip in the 45-minute contest, Lycoming shot 54.1% from the field and made eight threes, as well as going 14-for-15 from the line.

The Warriors saw five players in double figures, while the River Hawks boasted six, with Marcus Mitchell, Brandon Lavitt, Steven Ressler, and Jackson Van Wagener joining Pirone and Anderson in notching double-digit points.

The game was separated by 17 after a Van Wagener triple put Susquehanna up 71-54 with 10:22 left to play, but Lycoming went on an 11-2 run to close the gap to eight and never looked back, scoring 17 points in the final 92 seconds, as they wiped away an 81-69 River Hawk lead to tie the game at 86 heading into overtime.

The River Hawks only got a stop on their first possession of overtime, as Lycoming scored on each of the rest of their possessions to claim the win down the stretch.

Susquehanna had 22 assists to just 7 turnovers, led by Ressler with six, as the redshirt sophomore went 36 minutes without committing a turnover. Pirone and Van Wagener also added four helpers.

Anderson led Frank Marcinek's team in rebounds with nine, the most of all players in the game. Lavitt followed with eight, but the River Hawks were outrebounded 37-33 with 10 offensive rebounds to the Warriors' 11.

The River Hawks play next this Saturday on Senior Day, where they will honor their solitary senior, Noah Klinewski, in a 2 P.M. tip-off against Scranton. They fall to 14-8 with the defeat and 11-4 in the Landmark Conference.
