ORLANDO, FL – Landmark Conference action awaited the Susquehanna University men's tennis team Tuesday morning with a matchup against Scranton. Despite one doubles win and a comeback attempt with three singles victories, five decisive Royals wins gave the edge to Scranton in a 5-4 decision.
The three doubles team of
Owen Miller and Danny Murphy picked up their second straight win, 8-3 over Steven Prosperino and Nathan Harrison, to go a perfect 2-0 down south. It served as the River Hawks' lone victory in doubles after Scranton posed 8-4 and 8-3 doubles victories at one and two, respectively. Miller carried over his success to three singles, knocking off Harrison Clark by 6-3 and 6-1 scores.
Gavin Ream and
Thomas Hallahan posted victories at five and six singles, respectively, with Ream winning his 6-1, 6-4, while Hallahan won by matching 6-1 scores. Unfortunately, Scranton posted decisive wins in the one, two, and four categories in straight sets to come out on top, with the closest set coming at four singles when the Royals' Lucas Kotcho defeated
Harry Becraft in the second set, 6-3.
The River Hawks will have the day off Wednesday before returning to their slate Thursday against Hamline from the Oak Street Courts.
