Box Score 2 ORLANDO, FL – The Susquehanna University men's tennis team completed their Florida trip with Thursday and Friday matches between Hamline and Northwestern (MN), respectively, both 8-1 defeats.
In the Thursday matchup with Hamline,
Thomas Hallahan provided the River Hawks a victory at five singles in three sets, overcoming a 6-0 loss in game one to Surprise Taylor, then offering a surprise to his opponent with a 7-5 second-set victory and edging out an 11-9 decision in the tiebreaker. He and
Harry Becraft also played a close match at one doubles between Isaac Hultberg and Elden Lee, with the team from Hamline winning out, 8-6. Becraft had similar close-game undertones in his three singles matchup against Tyler Roussiang, overcoming a 6-3 defeat in the opening frame to win the second game 6-1, but it ultimately came down to Roussiang netting an 11-9 edge in the tiebreaker.
The next day against Northwestern the three doubles team of
Tim Basta and
Gavin Ream got Susquehanna a dub, beating Caleb Jergenson and Eli Henderson by an 8-5 score. A similar score met the two tandem of
Daniel Murphy and
Owen Miller, only they were on the other end of that score to the team of Darin Rupp and Carson Haack. Becraft was forced to retire his match at four singles to Griffen Jarchow, while Murphy played three sets to Jergenson at six singles, winning his first game 6-1 and then 6-4 and 10-4 decisions in favor of Jergenson.
The River Hawks return up north with the Landmark Conference season ahead of them, beginning at Drew Saturday, Mar. 23.
