SELINSGROVE, PA (March 13, 2023) - The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team defeated the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen 16-6 Wednesday afternoon for their sixth straight win, tying the program's longest win streak since 2019.
The first period was even and included many runs. Lebanon Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead just under five minutes into the game with two goals in 55 seconds. Kieran Thomas got the River Hawks on the board a minute later, then added another later along with Brennan Lorence in a 3-0 run that gave Susquehanna the lead with 3:40 left in the period. The Dutchmen responded right back with two goals in the last two minutes to take a 4-3 lead with 19 seconds left, but Lorence netted his second goal of the period 11 seconds later to bring it to a tie heading into the second.
Lebanon Valley took the lead back early in the second period with Colin Hughes scoring his second goal of the half, but for the rest of the game the River Hawks dominated. Susquehanna closed out the half strong with four goals in the last four and a half minutes with two from Thomas, one from Lorence, and the other from Connor Aitken to give the River Hawks an 8-5 lead at the break.
In the third the River Hawks began to pull away for good. The defense shut out the Dutchmen the whole period, while the offense scored another three goals to distance themselves from their opponent. Lorence scored his fourth goal at the 12-minute mark, Aitken scored his second off a nice transition play by Ted Zaborowski, and Jack Gaillard notched his first of the afternoon to complement his three assists in the first half.
The fourth saw the River Hawks keep their foot on the gas despite the score. Susquehanna outscored Lebanon Valley 5-1 in the period and outshot them 13-3. Lorence scored his fifth and final goal of the game 30 seconds in, Matthew Faggioli scored two of his own, and JP Jones and Nick Remund got in the action with a goal each. The only goal Susquehanna allowed the entire half came with under three minutes remaining that ended their 12-0 run and brought it to the final score of 16-6.
Lorence, Thomas, and Gaillard each totaled five points on the day, Lorence with five goals, Thomas with four goals and one assist, and Gaillard with one goal and four assists. Aitken, Remund, Faggioli, and Jones also notched multi-point games as well. Jozef Korpics got the win in net allowing just five goals and saving nine shots in just under 53 minutes of action. As a team the River Hawks outshot the Dutchmen 47-32 on the day, dominated the face offs 18-8, and scooped up far more ground balls 36-12.
The win brings Susquehanna to 6-1 on the season, and they will go on the road to Fredericksburg in their final trip to Virginia this season and their last nonconference game against the University of Mary Washington looking to make it seven straight wins. The game will begin at noon.
