ARLINGTON, VA – The Susquehanna University women's lacrosse team went on the road in search of their fourth straight win Wednesday, doing so with their largest margin of victory of the season in a 19-6 win at Marymount. Just days after her overtime goal carried the River Hawks to a thrilling win over Rowan,
Kelsey Homberg led the scoring Wednesday with five goals, four of which occurred in the first half alone.
The River Hawks had four goals each in the first and second quarters to build an 8-3 halftime lead, scoring the first four goals of the game.
Caitlin Harvey opened things up with an unassisted score, as did
Liv Owen for a 2-0 lead in just over three minutes of play. Homberg got her first score of the day with 7:31 to go in the first, while
Heather Riefenhauser connected for the first of her three goals on the afternoon two and half minutes later. Entering the second up 4-1, Homberg scored the next two for Susquehanna to get her the hat trick, then after two Marymount scores Homberg returned again for her fourth goal, followed by another from Owen for the five-goal lead at the half.
Susquehanna continued to pour it on with a six-goal third quarter and five-goal fourth period.
Abby Andrus netted the first two for the River Hawks to mark a two-goal day for her, with the remaining third-quarter scores from Riefenhauser, two from
Emma Kelleher, and
Hannah McNamara on a woman-up opportunity for a 14-5 lead. They wrapped things up with a 5-1 fourth quarter thanks to scores from Homberg and
Madi Mitchell on woman-up chances, followed by Riefenhauser,
Sophia Trively, and
Ruby Calabrese.
Aerin O'Brien posted six saves in a full 60 minutes in net as Susquehanna outshot Marymount 43-15, including 34-12 in shots on goal. SU seized on 3-of-4 woman-up opportunities compared to the Saints' 3-of-3. On the career scoring end Owen's numbers now total 124 points on 63 goals and 61 assists and Homberg 122 points on 96 goals and 26 assists.
The women improve to 5-2 on the season and continue on the road for two more games, the first this Saturday at Lebanon Valley at 12 noon, followed by Drew the following Saturday to open their Landmark season Mar. 23 at 1 p.m.
